Abstract

138,244. Sugden, T. May 15, 1919. U-tube and like superheaters. - In a vertical boiler of the kind in which smoke-tubes F radiate from an eccentrically arranged combustion chamber B to a smoke-box C extending half way around the boiler, a superheater having horizontal tubes E is fitted in the smoke box close to the boiler shell. The tubes are disposed opposite the spaces between the ends of the smoke-tubes, and are supported at the middle by a frame G. The vertical headers D may be so partitioned that the steam takes several backward and forward passes through groups of tubes. The two headers may be replaced by a single vertical header.
