Abstract

137,516. Koch, G. Jan. 9, 1919, [Convention date]. Pile-fabric looms. - In weaving pile fabrics, the pile loops C, Fig. 6, are formed by crossing the pile warps a<1> with respect to a series of longitudinallyextending attenuated supports n inserting wefts b between the pile warps and the supports, and returning the pile warps to their initial positions. The supports have free ends projecting beyond the fell of the fabric, so that as the fabric advances, the wefts b leave the supports and free the loops. Two fabrics may be woven face to face, as shown, and the supports n may comprise stout linen threads extending from a beam o, Fig. 1, between the two fabrics and supported by a heald r. Two shuttles q are employed, and a few picks of ground weft are inserted into sheds formed by crossing the ground and pile warps a, a<1> between the pile loops, pile warps a' being moved from one shed to the other to cross the supports n. The loops are preferable formed alternately in each fabric as shown to prevent the two fabrics being connected together by loops from each fabric being formed over the same weft thread. When a single fabric is woven, as shown in Fig. 9, the upper shuttle is picked only when pile loops are to be formed. Spaced breast beams are employed and the pile warps are kept taut by yielding means k. When worn, the ends of the supports n are cut off and the beam o is turned to advance the supports.
