Abstract
428,069. Combined woven and knitted fabrics. CROMPTON, G., 144, Sanford Avenue, Flushing, Long Island, New York, U.S.A. Nov. 6, 1933, No. 30788. Convention date, Dec. 3, 1932. [Class 142 (iv)] [See also Group VIII] A textile fabric comprising woven sections 11, 12, 13 and knitted sections 17, 19 is formed as an integral piece of goods by extending the yarn of the knitted sections into adjacent woven sections. A plurality of distinct weft threads 14, 15, 16 or 21, 14, 15 comprise a given pick of the several woven sections. The fabric is formed by inserting the weft 14 and 15 between the shedded warps of sections 11, 12 and 12, 13 respectively, sinking the yarn extending between the woven sections, drawing the sunk weft through previously formed loops such as 26, 27, and then beating up the weft. The wefts 14, 15 are then interwoven with the warp-threads only to form true selvedges on both sides of the woven sections and to produce a fabric having more picks than courses to the inch. Additional yarns 21, 16 are introduced into the outer woven sections to form the selvedges therein while the yarns 14, 15 are interweaving with the inner sets of warps. The weave and loop structure may be varied. Specification 428,102 is referred to.
