Abstract
23,918. Heys, W. G., [Brun, C., and Brun, J.]. Nov. 14. Shuttleless looms, on which it is required to weave cloths of saveral colours and with figured patterns, using a single weftcarrier laying two shoots of weft in each shed, have the curved weft-carrier D fixed upon an oscillating blade E. A slot G extends the whole length of the carrier and opens at the free end of the same into a hole T so as to leave a shoulder, the side of the hole further from the shoulder being even with the slot. The weft threads A, B, C are threaded through the hole T, and separately through healds, so that, when one of the threads is lifted by its heald, that thread will be carried by the shoulder of the hole T, the other threads being passed by the slot G. At the end of the race a shuttle S carries a selvage thread, the loop made by the returning weft interweaving with this thread. A needle c, operated at the required moments by a cam, may be made to enter the weft loop and remain there until the carrier has returned to its starting position, thus ensuring an even selvage, in that the loop of the weft is not pulled within the fabric by the returning weftcarrier.
