Abstract
1367496 Ore agglomerates AB COLDBOUND PELLETS 19 Oct 1971 [19 Oct 1970] 48517/71 Heading C1A Agglomerates of Fe ore concentrates are produced by mixing the ore concentrate with an additive material which contains at least one of MnO, Al2O3, and TiO2 (or compounds convertible to such at 800-1100‹ C.) and a hardenable binding agent, forming agglomerates from the mixture, and hardening the binder. The additive material is preferably produced by grinding the ingredients together with iron oxide material (e.g. magnetite or wustite), which may contain the MnO &c. in solid soultion, in a vibratory mill, as described in Specification 1,367,495. Hydratable constituents may be slaked during grinding or storage of the additive. Hardening is effected (a) with CO2 using Ca(OH)2 as binder, (b) by allowing to set, e.g. at room temperature using cement or blast furnace slag as binder, or, preferably (c) by steam autoclaving, e.g. at 160-230‹ C. and 10-70 atmospheres pressure using a steam hardenable binder, e.g. Ca(OH)2, slag, or cement ŒSiO2. The agglomerates may be coated with Mg(OH)2 before hardening.
