Abstract

Coherent bodies are formed from metal ores and/or fines of such ores, the metal of which is capable of oxidation, by mixing with the ore, or with raw ore, carbonaceous material and flux, a product of the total or partial reduction of ore fines or comminuted ores which, as a result of the reduction, contains oxidizable-metal in a dispersed state, adding a proportion of water, compressing and allowing the composition to harden. The mixture may contain an accelerating agent such as ferrous sulphate, calcium chloride or sodium chloride. The mixture may contain powdered metal from other sources as an additional component. The flux material may comprise dolomite or lime. The production of coherent bodies from oxidic iron ore is referred to.ALSO:Coherent bodies are formed from metal ores and/or fines of such ores, the metal of which is capable of oxidation, by mixing with the ore, or with raw ore, carbonaceous material and flux, a product of the total or partial reduction of ore fines or comminuted ores which, as a result of the reduction, contains oxidisible metal in a dispersed state, adding a proportion of water, compressing and allowing the composition to harden.
