Abstract
Ores are briquetted by forming a mixture of the finely divided ore with a binding agent consisting of a finely divided mixture of clay, preferably marl, with limestone, quicklime or slaked-lime, an aqueous solution of magnesium or iron sulphate, starch and an aqueous solution of sodium or potassium hydroxide, the mixture being kneaded and pressed into a briquette. The binding agent is preferably made by adding 10cc. of a 0.5% aqueous magnesium sulphate solution and 50g. of starch containing 0.5cc. of a 1% aqueous potassium hydroxide solution to 1 Kg. of marl. Preferably 4 to 6% of this binding agent is heated to 50 DEG C. and mixed with the finely divided ore which, after kneading is briquetted by pressing at about 75 DEG C. 0.2% of paraffin wax may also be added to act as a water repellant.
