Abstract

Blocks or briquettes are formed by binding fine material with alkaline sulphite lye and compressing the mixture without heat treatment. The fine material is iron ore fines, finely crushed iron ore, or by-products from steel works, e.g. crushed mill scale or flue dust. Fuel, e.g. coke and/or flux material, e.g. calcium carbonate, may be incorporated in the briquettes.
