Abstract

1366684 Electric couplings BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CABLES Ltd 18 May 1972 [18 May 1971] 15596/71 Heading H2E The outer concentric conductors of a distribution cable are connected to service cable neutral conductors by a connector comprising a metal, e.g. copper, body 1 having a channelshaped recess 2 with means for clamping the distribution cable conductors and at least one slot or bore 7 having clamping means 8 for the service cable conductors. Two or four grub screws 8 are associated with each bore 7. Three bores may be provided, and their axes may lie perpendicular to the axis of recess 2. Serrations 9 are provided to bite through the oxide layer of aluminium cables. The clamping means includes grooves 4 carrying a member 3 which may be a spiral washer or consist of a plate with a rubber washer, or a separate leaf spring. Alternatively (Fig. 6) the clamping means includes grooves 34 provided with undercut sections 39, carrying a member 33 having ribs 40. When the screw is tightened against the conductors in the recess, the side walls of the recess are urged towards each other.
