Abstract

1,269,339. Electric couplings. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CABLES Ltd. 16 Jan., 1970 [17 Jan., 1969], No. 2855/69. Heading H2E. In a multi-core cable joint of the kind in which pairs of conductors are connected by a metal connector passing through and secured to a body of insulating material anchored to the joint enclosure, in order to decrease the overall length of the joint and avoid having to bend each cable conductor twice (Fig. 1, not shown), each cable conductor at its point of attachment to the connector is aligned so that its axis lies on a conical surface which is coaxial with and makes an acute angle with the joint axis. Preferably as shown the connectors 23 have at least their end portions angled so that these are aligned with the axes of the end portions of the cable conductors, or they may be continuously curved throughout their length (Fig. 5, not shown). The connectors may be soldered or crimped to the cable conductors, and may be aluminium rods with ferrules at each end embedded in individual cast resin bodies or in a single such body.
