Abstract
136,640. Palladium Autocars, Ltd., and Baxter, D. J. W. Dec. 18, 1918. Variable-speed gearing, of the kind in which a driving disk such as A<1> is pressed against a roller A<2> with a force which increases as the roller is moved towards the centre of the disk, comprises a main spring D and an auxiliary spring D' for the regulation of the force. These springs act through a lever C turning about a fixed pivot C', this lever being in the form of parallel bars engaging a groove in a sleeve A<1x> secured to the disk A<1> A change-speed lever A<3>, which is connected by link-work to the roller A<2> to operate it, carries a cam A<4> which acts through a lever A<5> on the spring D<1> so as to vary its tension. In the application to a motor-vehicle, pedal-levers E<2>, F<2> are connected to the lever C on opposite sides of its pivot, so as to be able to increase the frictional pressure positively, or to disconnect the drive, respectively.
