Abstract

1365202 Accelerator pedal DAIMLERBENZ AG 1 Aug 1972 [4 Aug 1971] 35929/72 Heading B7H An accelerator pedal arrangement for a motor vehicle includes a shaft 4 which is pivoted in bearings 1, 2 on the vehicle floor 3, two levers 5, 6 fixed to the shaft 4, the lever 5 being connected to the accelerator cable (not shown), a pedal plate 10 which is pivoted by bearings 8, 9 on a shaft 7 fixed to the lever 6, and a pair of stops, the arrangement being such that if the driver presses above the. shaft 7 the pedal 10 rotates about the axis of shaft 4 and if the driver presses below the shaft 7 the pedal plate 10 rotates about an axis at the top of the plate 10, thus turning the lever 6 and shaft 4. As described a sleeve 12 is rotatably mounted on the shaft 4 and carries a stop 16 and a lever 13 having a slot 14. The pedal plate 10 carries a rod 15 which engages the slot 14 and an angled stop member 11. When the driver presses above the shaft 7 the stop 11 engages the back of the lever 6 so that the plate 10 and lever 6 rotate about the axis of the shaft 4, thus turning the shaft. During this movement the sleeve 12, lever 13 and stop 16 also rotate freely about the shaft 4. When the driver presses below the shaft 7 the stop 16 prevents the lever 13 from rotating so that the plate 10 rotates about the axis of rod 15, thus turning the lever 6 and shaft 4. This arrangement facilitates simultaneous operation of the brake and accelerator, the driver applying his toe to the brake pedal (not shown) and his heel to the bottom of the accelerator pedal and for this reason the bottom of the pedal plate may be widened as shown.
