1362261 Pipe couplings BRITISH STEEL CORP 27 Jan 1972 [3 Feb 1971] 3821/71 Heading F2G [Also in Division B5] To prevent crack propagation, through a sleeve-like part 1 or sleeve of a welded polythene pipe joint, from weld gap 8, the sleeve-like part or sleeve is made of polythene of ultrahigh molecular weight (0.5 to 3 million) and need not completely surround the pipe, which is of lower molecular weight. After the parts have been heated and placed together, welding pressure may be applied, by means of a surrounding collar or clamp. As an alternative to a T junction, a saddle branch-to-main connector of ultra high molecular weight polythene is welded to both pipes.
