Abstract
135,229. Ryan, A. H. Aug. 6, 1918. Self-driving machines.-A self-driving rotary engine comprises a wheel carrying at the outer ends of tubes d a number of collapsible bags f rotating in a water chamber A and adapted, as they ascend, to be inflated with compressed air, the buoyancy of the inflated bags tending to turn the wheel. Compressed air, which is supplied by a pump i driven from the wheel shaft b, is conducted by a pipe h to a port in a fixed plate g, with which the mouths c of tubes d register in turn, the mouths c subsequently permitting exhaust of the air as they pass beyond the top edge of the plate g. The air is forced from the bags f by weights f<1> or other devices. In a modification, the wheel is almost entirely submerged in water.
