Abstract

1351749 Cable terminations BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CABLE Ltd 30 July 1971 [30 July 1970] 36950/70 Heading H2E The end of the metal sheath of a cable is sealed by reducing the diameter of a length of the sheath adjacent its end, cutting back part of the reduced length to expose the conductors, fitting a metal sleeve over the exposed conductors and the reduced remaining length of the sleeve and introducing a casting resin into the sleeve which adheres to the sleeve and the sheath; the outer diameter of the sleeve being not greater than that of the cable and its inner diameter such that a radial space is provided between the sleeve and a portion of the reduced diameter length of the sheath. A mineral insulated thermocouple cable 1 is swaged adjacent the end so that its sheath forms a frustoconical portion 2 and a cylindrical portion 3, a part of the cylindrical portion 3 adjacent the end being cut back. Insulating sleeves 7 are slipped over exposed conductors 4 and a metal sleeve 5 whose bore diverges at one end to be complementary to the sheath portion 2 is mated with the sheath. Casting resin 8 is introduced to fill the sleeve.
