Abstract

1349154 Filling containers FARROW & JACKSON Ltd 2 Dec 1971 [21 Dec 1970] 60565/70 Heading B8T A filling head comprises a body 3 secured to the bottom 1 of a tank from which liquid passes via ports 5 into a filling tube 6 containing a centre vent tube 7, connected to upper and lower vent tubes 2, 8 respectively. Mounted on the filling tube 6 is a slide 9 attached to a sleeve 10 through which the tube 8 projects. To cut off liquid flow the sleeve 10 bears on a valve seat 13 on a tip 14, secured to the lower end of tube 8, contact being maintained by a compression spring 15. A passageway between the sleeve 10 and tube 8 is arranged so that liquid is discharged on one side, and air is vented through a slot 21 in tube 8 on the other side, when a bottle neck is pressed against a rubber seat 20 raising slide 9 and sleeve 10 which normally cover the slot 21 and the passageway. The tube 8 is mounted to yield laterally so as to self align to the path of sleeve 10, and the bottle is centralized by a nylon member 14, which has pins 45 guided by bearings in the body 3. The filling level is adjustable by nylon spacers 23 mounted between seat 20 and the slide 9. The left side of Fig. 1 shows the closed and the right side the open positions.
