Abstract

540,016. Filling bottles &c. POWLEY & SONS, Ltd., R., and POWLEY. O. March 13, 1940, Nos. 4707/40 and 4230/41. [Class 125 (ii)] Milk, carbonated beverages &c. is filled into bottles &c. through a filling tube 6, Figs. 3 and 6, communicating with a reservoir 1 and reciprocable vertically in it a fluid-tight way by being connected to a flexible diaphragm 4. In the device shown in Fig, 3 filler tube 6 and vent tube 5 move up together when bottle 19 is pressed on cap 18, a spur 17 opening vent valve 14. Continued movement causes spring 16 to move tube 5 relatively to tube 6 so that liquid enters past flange 12. Stops 21 limit the motion. In another form the filling and venting valves are actuated by rods 25a, 26a, Fig. 7, which contact fixed stops 25 26 when the tank is rotated. In Fig. 6 a tube 43 is thus actuated by a stop to move a plunger 40 downwards. This connects tube 6 with a channel 44 and connects the counter-pressure with the interior of the bottle. Ports 38 are also opened and admit liquid. Another form of vent is also described.
