1347861 Stopping and steering ships POLITECHNIKA GDANSKA-INSTYTUT OKRETOWY 8 June 1971 [9 June 1970] 19331/71 Headings B7A and B7V A ship's braking and/or steering device includes at least one flap member 2 movably mounted at or adjacent the bow and displaceable to increase the resistance to motion of the hull. Watertight bulkhead 4 seals the hull on displacement of the flap member and ducting 6, 7 includes a longitudinal section extending aft from the bulkhead and directs oncoming water during forward motion of the ship to an outlet on at least one side of the hull when the flap is displaced. Each outlet has a movable cover 8 which may be remotely controlled.
