Abstract

1443356 Rudders MITSUI SHIPBUILDING & ENG CO Ltd 7 Sept 1973 [8 Sept 1972] 42165/73 Heading B7V An extendible auxiliary rudder blade 7 is slidably mounted, and normally held, within a main rudder 1 and is moved rearwardly by two hydraulic cylinders 8 so as to project from the training edge of the rudder 1 to increase its effectiveness when manoeuvring at low speeds. The cylinders 8 are controlled manually or according to ships speed by a directional control valve 11 and the blade 7 is slidably supported by guide surfaces on the interior of the rudder 1 and carried on rollers 15.
