Abstract

1,226,398. Ship's auxiliary manoeuvring device. F. W. PLEUGER. 9 Sept., 1968 [27 June, 1968], No. 42817/68. Heading B7V. In a ship having a transverse tunnel 8, the centre portion 1 is retractable into a recess 5 and has secured therein a propeller 2. The combined portion 1 and propeller 2 is mounted on a pivotable pillar 9 and is moved linearly by hydraulic rams 12 to the retracted position shown in full lines in which it operates as a lateral thrust device and to the extended position shown in interrupted lines in which it operates to propel the ship. The recess 5 is closed by the bottom piece 7 of the movable centre portion, openings 15 in said piece 7 permitting flow of water to decrease resistance when the centre portion is in its extended position.
