Abstract
1,227,342. Underwater vehicles. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. 27 March, 1968 [31 March, 1967], No. 14975/67. Heading B7A. An underwater vehicle comprises a streamlined body attached to a control cable, and carrying propulsion means 5, manoeuvring means 13, 14, a retractable manipulator arm 7, and rotatable sponsons 10 with telescopic limbs 9. Pump 12 supplies sea water to main jet 5 and via valves to manoeuvring jets 13, 14 on the sponsons. The limbs 9 are extended and retracted hydraulically by pump 12. The limbs 9 have suction pads 11, an orifice in each pad communicating via a duct in the limb with pump 12. Arm 7 is hydraulically controlled by pump 12.
