994,320. Hydrofoils. GRUMMAN AIRCRAFT ENGINEERING CORPORATION. July 14, 1962, No. 27149/62. Heading B7A. A hydrofoil comprises a main body 13 having a concave bottom surface and a sharp leading edge, and a leading edge flap 15 pivoted to the upper surface thereof and adapted to be extended to induce cavity flow around the hydrofoil. A further flap 16 is pivoted to the lower rear portion of the body 13 and adapted to be extended to vary the lift of the hydrofoil. A lift control surface 14 is pivoted to the rear of the body about 17 so that it may be extended to vary the lift retracted to within the cavity or lowered to a position below the body 13 by rotation of the member 18 about 19.
