Abstract

1345409 Jib cranes GROVE MFG CO 23 June 1971 [15 Dec 1970] 29519/71 Heading B8B [Also in Division F2] The support of a cantilevered crane boom 11 comprises a pair of laterally spaced upstanding plates 14 forming parts of a turntable, each plate having a journal block 17 for receiving the pivot shaft 21 of the boom, there being a journal cap 27 on each block and vertical, aligned openings in each block and cap through which pass long tension bolts 31. The bolts pass through anchorages 34 disposed on the plates below the blocks and engage with the undersurfaces of the anchorages. Nuts 40 are provided on the bolts for adjusting the tension in the bolts. The length of the bolts is such that shocks arising during use of the crane are abosrbed by the elasticity of the bolts. Preferably anchorages are provided on each side of the plates, with bolts also on each side of the plates. The anchorages may be secured by pairs of horizontal bolts 37 which straddle the tension bolts. Bushes 25 are provided in each journal block, and are keyed to the block, and are keyed to the the block or cap to prevent them rotating with the shaft. Flanges 26 may be provided on the ends of the bushes to provide thrust bearings for the boom.
