Abstract

24,991. Farrands, T. E. Nov. 9. Jib cranes.-Comprises a ball-and-socket joint for supporting the heel of a ship's derrick. The lower end of the jib a is formed with a ball c which rests in a socket carried by a bracket e fixed to the mast. The ball c is secured by a cap and bolts d<1>. The cap and socket are so cut away that the jib can move through 90 degrees in the vertical plane and 180 degrees in the horizontal plane. By providing two sockets as shown, loads can be dealt with all round the mast. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 13,951/99.
