Abstract
1345035 Sewing machine needle SINGER CO 27 April 1971 [4 May 1970] 11496/71 Heading D1G An easy threading needle comprising a blade 15, an eye 12 and a main point 18 has a thread entry slot 20 extending from one side of the main point into the needle eye 12, the slot providing a concave recess into one side of the needle point and a minor point 30 at one side of the needle, the minor point being bent inwardly toward said tapered extremity and into a position completely within the said recess. The slot may be disposed at not more than 3‹ to the needle axis. The slot may be arcuate in section and may be cut by a tubular cutter (Fig. 6 not shown) of substantially the same diameter as the needle shank; alternatively the groove may be V-shaped. In use, a thread loop is passed around the main point (Fig. 4 not shown) and drawn to one side to flex the main point away from point 30 and open the slot. The loop is then drawn up into the eye.
