Abstract

1,143,342. Sewing machines. PRESTON ENGS. (PRECISION) Ltd. 7 July, 1967 [22 April, 1966], No. 17616/66. Heading D1G. A looper assembly when assembled in a conventional looper bar in a tufting machine is characterised in that a looper thereof is positioned at such an angle relative to the looper bar as to be capable of presenting the centre of a loop to a relatively moving cutting knife. As shown, a standard looper 18 carried by a looper block, is bent at B through an angle of about 20 degrees, and the co-operating knife blade 20 is similarly inclined, whereby the limb 21a of the seized yarn loop extending from its upper end Y to the point Z of severing is increased so as to be substantially equal to the other limb 21b from its upper point X to point Z. In a modification a looper block (11) carrying one or more straight loopers (10) is formed with inclined grooves (14) receiving vertical ribs (13) on a standard looper bar (12).
