Abstract

1,244,977. Sewing machines. I. STRAUSS and B. THOMAS. 13 Dec., 1968 [28 Feb., 1968], No. 59312/68. Heading D1G. An article 17 after receiving a stitched seam 18 in a sewing machine passes on to a tubular member 21 positioned below the stitch-forming point, whereby the rearwardly-extending thread chain 19 is drawn by suction into the bore 20 of member 21, and a thread chain limb 19c adjacent article 18, passes into a slot 25 inclined downwardly in the side wall 24a of member 21 from the open end of bore 20, limb 19c then being severed by a knife blade 26 co-operating with an edge of slot 25. When the front edge of the succeeding article reaches member 21 the thread chain adjacent said edge enters slot 25 and is severed thereat by blade 26.
