Abstract

1,181,276. Sewing-machines. G. V. EMMANS. 12 Sept., 1968 [23 June, 1967], No. 29068/67. Heading D1G. A thread cutter mounted on the presser foot of a sewing machine comprises a knife edge and co-operating thread gripper comprising a spring and gripper face. As shown in Fig. 1 the blade 6 is mounted on top of the presser foot and as the thread approaches in the direction of arrow B it is cut and the end gripped between the spring 9 and face 5. In a modification Fig. 5 a spring 27 is provided and the threads T are cut by a sharpened edge 25 on a spur 24 having passed by an upturned tongue of the spring to be gripped against a face of the spur.
