Abstract

1502298 Sewing machine thread cutter SINGER CO 28 April 1975 [9 May 1974] 17651/75 Heading DIG An underbed thread trimmer in a chainstitch machine comprises two ledger blades 16, 18 adjustably mounted on the bed 10, a thread catcher 36 pivoted to the bed and having needle thread and looper thread engaging means 72, 70 with cutting edges (74 Figs. 3-5 not shown) co-operable with respective ledger blades, one ledger blade having means 30 for retaining a length of the looper thread subsequent to cutting. The catcher is mounted on a shaft 44 rotatable by a crank and ball link coupling connecting it to a solenoid 60. As the catcher 36 swings through the sewing position the fork ends 70, 72 respectively engage the looper and needle threads to carry them to the respective blades 18, 16, end 70 entering between blade 16 and a thread retaining coil 34 carried below the blade at the end of a leaf spring 32. On the return of the catcher a severed end 100 of the looper thread is trapped between coil 34 and the blade.
