Abstract

1365546 Machine needle SINGER CO 20 Sept 1971 [24 Sept 1970] 43702/71 Heading DIG An easily threadable sewing machine needle comprises a fixing shank 11 a blade 13 extending from the shank, an eye 15 at the point thereof, the blade having lengthwise thread accommodating groove 20 extending from the eye towards the shank, a threading slot 40 extending along the needle blade from the shank into the eye the slot opening at one side into the groove 20 and a thread inlet slot 50 transversely across the blade, the blade and threading slot being formed with a twist about the longitudinal axis of the needle. Two grooves, one on either side of the shank, are provided the second groove being narrower than the groove 20. Slot 40 opens into both grooves. The twist is preferably greater than 180‹ and preferably lies between 185‹ and 200‹. The slot 40 is cut by a cutting wheel and its width later reduced by pressing the blade.
