1369974 Needle J L GRUND 29 Jan 1973 4430/73 Heading D1G A sewing machine needle having a blade 11 pointed at 12 is provided with an eye 13 having a lateral threading slot 17 covered by an elongated member 18 secured to the blade between the eye and the point, the member 18 being arcuate in cross section at least at section 2-2 so that a thread entering at 19 between the blade and member 18 is forced into an actuate form as it is about to enter slot 17 and must assume that form again if it is to escape from the eye 13. A projection 20 on the needle engages a hole 15 in the member 18 to prevent the latter moving upwards away from the point. A hand needle embodying the invention is also disclosed (Fig. 4 not shown).
