Abstract
1340601 Cables SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [8 April 1970] 26470/71 Heading H1A [Also in Division B2] An insulated cable comprises a conductor 1, inner semi-conducting layer 2, extruded insulating layer 3 and extruded outer semiconducting layer 4 which consists of a polymer composition of 10-90% by wt. of an ethylene-vinyl acetate-vinyl chloride terpolymer with 90-10% by wt. of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer containing 15-55% by wt. of vinyl acetate, a cross-linking agent, for example, 2,5-dimethyl- 2<SP>1</SP>,5<SP>1</SP> - di - (tertiary - butyl peroxy) - hexine - 3 or di-α-cumyl peroxide, and a conductive imparting agent, for example, carbon black. The outer semi-conductive layer can be easily stripped from the cable. The polymer composition may also include an anti-oxidant, for example, amine-based or phenol-based antioxidants, an ageing resistor, and/or processing acids, e.g. zinc stearate. The insulating layer 3 may be cross-linked polyethylene or a crosslinked copolymer of ethylene and one or more comonomers, for example, vinyl acetate, and may include inorganic fillers, for example, talc, clay or calcium carbonate.
