Abstract

1337872 Door closers ARCHITECTURAL HARDWARE Ltd 24 Nov 1971 54501/71 Addition to 1332530 Heading E2M A door closer device of the piston and cylinder type, has a "stand open" device comprising a plunger acting between a moving part of the closer and a stationary rod extending longitudinally of the spring, the rod having a notch to receive part of the plunger in the "stand open" position. As shown, the rod 44 extends longitudinally of a nest of springs 84, 86 and is formed with notches 88, 92 and 94. The plunger is preferably a ball or balls 74, held by a cylindrical cup member 76, the wall 78 of which abuts the springs 84, 86, which resist the opening of the door and provide the loading on the plunger. The rod 44 may be formed with a tapering portion 70, which provides a braking device, as the head 26 of the piston traverses the tapering portion 70, the size of the annular passage through the port 42 is reduced, thus increasing the resistance to fluid flow through the port.
