Abstract

1372392 Fluid actuators; damping INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO 13 Oct 1971 [13 Oct 1970] 47641/71 Heading F1D In a fluid operated actuator employing a piston reciprocable in a cylinder, such as device for converting linear movement of a piston into rotational movement of a shaft, the piston 19 is provided with a recess 34 within which is located a partcylindrical member 40 which is employed in damping the stroke of the piston 19. A bore 45 in piston 19 communicates with recess 34 and the external surface of member 40 has grooves 44. Thus when the piston 19 reaches the end of its stroke the member 40 is urged towards the exhaust port 30, Fig. 1, and fluid flows from the chamber 20 through the bore 45 to recess 34 and thence past grooves 44 to the port 30. The grooves thus reduce the rate of exhaust of fluid from the chamber 20.
