Abstract

1329211 Winches BYRON JACKSON Inc 19 April 1971 [16 March 1970] 21645/71 Heading B8B Hoist apparatus for moving a load carrying elevator platform E between relatively vertically movable locations e.g., a fixed support and a vessel V subject to wave motion, comprises a load hoist cable 10 for moving the platform E and a tension hoist cable 11 connecting the support and vessel, the load hoist LH and tension hoist TH being capable of being coupled together to cause movement of the platform E corresponding to the movement between the support and vessel, the load hoist LH also being operable to move the platform E between the support and vessel. The platform E is guided along the hoist cable 11 which passes through a tube on the platform. The tension hoist drum 45 is driven from a motor 21 through a slipping clutch SC which has its slipping torque controlled by an air pressure regulator R1, the latter being automatically adjustable by a tension sensor LS on the cable 11. The tension hoist shaft 44 is connectable to the load hoist shaft 80 through a pressure air controlled clutch MC, an associated brake 135 for the shaft 80 being automatically released as the clutch MC is engaged. Drive is transmitted between the shafts 44 and 80 via chain and sprockets 94, 95 to impart the tension hoist motion to the load hoist drum 100, and an hydraulic motor 106 and brake 107 secured on the shaft 80 either lock the drum 100 to the shaft 80 whereby the load hoist motion only is applied to the drum 100, or drives the drum 100 relative to the shaft 80 to superimpose an elevating motion of the drum on to the first said motion. With the clutch MC disengaged the elevating motion only may be applied to the drum 100.
