Abstract

1329157 Coupling appliances to containers SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 21 Dec 1970 [23 Dec 1969] 60591/70 Heading F2G A coupling device for connecting an appliance to a gas container having a circular projecting rim 7 comprises a cylindrical member 10 with a slidable sleeve 20 and elastic fingers 12 which engage the rim 7 when the sleeve 20 is moved to a tightening position and locking means to retain the sleeve in the said position. As shown, the fingers 12 have a slot 15 to accommodate two semicircular elements (30), (Fig. 3, not shown) having ends 31 which radially extend into two diametrically opposed slots 22 in sleeve 20. Each end 31 of one of the elements (30) engages an inclined surface 23, Fig. 5, and when the sleeve 20 is moved downwardly, the elements are tightened to press the fingers 12 inwardly to engage the rim 7; when the ends 31 of the elements (30) engage surfaces 24, the sleeve is retained in the tightened position, Fig. 6 (not shown). In an alternative embodiment, Figs. 7 to 9 (not shown), the locking means comprises arms (47) disposed between the fingers 12 on the cylindrical member 10 and having rear inclined faces (48, 49) co-operating with a projecting inner bead (52) on the sleeve 20. In Fig. 10 (not shown), the cylindrical member 10 has a central push element (60) which co-operates with a valve (5) of the gas container. The appliance may be mounted on the cylindrical member 10 at 18 by a screw connection, bayonet connection, snap connection or the like, or the coupling device may be an integral part of the appliance.
