Abstract

The double diaphragm valve closure element (1) comprises two substantially identical diaphragms (6,7), each having an outer rim (13,13') which serves to rigidly clamp each diaphragm in position. A spacing member (2) is inserted between the two diaphragms with contact surfaces (18,19) in abutment therewith. Each diaphragm (6,7) has a central region provided with a respective enlargement (8,9). An intermediate member (20) is positioned between the diaphragms and with contact surfaces (21,22) in abutment therewith. Each diaphragm (6,7) has an annular region interconnecting the outer rim and the central region and which when the diaphragm is in its stress free state lies at an angle to the central region. <IMAGE>
