Abstract

1327359 Cold-cathode tubes A I NASTJUKHA O G BESPALOV A S KNYAZYATOV P A SMIRNOV and A N UDOVENKO 19 June 1972 28611/72 Heading H1D A gas discharge switching device fitted with gas at a pressure corresponding to the left-hand branch of Paschen's curve comprises a hollow cathode in the form of a closed chamber divided by a barrier 2 into at least two parts, each containing an anode 4, and means 8 for initiating arc discharge. The barrier 2 and metal casings 1 forming the cathode are provided with cooling ducts 10 and are hermetically sealed by packings 5. The anodes 4 are insulated from the cathode by insulators 6 and 7. Terminals 15 enable a potential to be applied to anode shields 14. Discharge is initiated by a solenoid 8 provided with adjusting screws 9. The device is evacuated by a pump (not shown) having a collector 13 connected to a duct 12 leading to an opening in the barrier 2.
