Abstract
1327126 Cold-cathode tubes MITSUBISHI DENKI KK 19 April 1971 [3 March 1970 9 March 1970 11 March 1970] 22905/71 Heading H1D [Also in Division H2] A discharge gap for a lightning arrester is mounted in an atmosphere of electro-negative gas and comprises a pair of discharge electrodes 1 which defines a V-shaped gap, the discharge initiating portions 2 of the electrodes having edges the radius of curvature R of which is less than the width of the gap at the portions. The shape of the cross-section (see Fig. 6) of the portion 2 of each electrode reduces the time for which the arc adheres to the electrodes thereby reducing damage to the portions 2. The gas used is sulphur hexafluoride. Towards the wider portion of the gap, the radius of curvature of each facing edge of the electrodes, is increased. A magnetic field is provided for extinguishing the arc.
