Abstract

1325821 Filament support GTE SYLVANIA Inc 19 April 1971 [30 March 1970] 23541/71 Heading H1F The filament 3 of an elongated tubular incandescent lamp is supported from a rod 9 extending alongside it and held in alignment with it by a pair of rod supports, the first rod support holding one end of the rod rigidly with respect to the envelope and the second rod support having an aperture slidably receiving the rod so as to provide freedom for thermal expansion and contraction in a lengthwise direction. The lamp is a quartz halogen lamp and the rod is of a halogen resistant metal such as tungsten. The halogen may be bromine, iodine or chlorine, or compounds thereof. The rod supports may be in the form of silica bridges 7 or press seals, Fig. 2 (not shown), or in the form of a second rod element whose one end is formed into a coil to receive an end of the rod 9 and whose other end is rigidly held with respect to the envelope.
