Abstract

1320556 Rolling mills MASCHINEN-UND WERKZEUGBAU GmbH 5 Oct 1970 [18 Oct 1969] 47177/70 Heading B3M Roll changing apparatus for a strip rolling mill comprises an hydraulic connector which ensures that a new set of rolls are automatically coupled to an hydraulic supply when the rolls are inserted in the mill. The rolls 4 are supported on a cradle 6 and are shown in Fig. 1 as being ready to be inserted, together with the cradle, into the mill 1 by a displacer 5. The connector 11, Fig. 2, engages with a similar connector on the mill when the rolls are moved into position, thus connecting the hydraulic supply to rollbalancing cylinders 14, via passages 10 and 13 in the cradle 6. The rolls are therefore automatically urged apart when they are moved into position. A carriage 2, which is movable in the rolling direction, facilitates removal of one set of rolls from the mill and insertion of a replacement set.
