Abstract

1316777 Textured yarn TURBO MACHINE CO 16 June 1970 [3 Nov 1969] 28991/70 Heading D1F A continuously textured heat-settable synthetic thermoplastic yarn is made by continuously twisting the yarn, heat setting while in a twisted condition, continuously cooling, and thereafter continuously drawing the cooled yarn at a temperature below the heat-setting temperature. In a preferred embodiment, two yarns 12, 13 are pretwisted at 14 and passed via twist stopping means B to a heater 30. The heat-set twisted yarns are then passed through a cooling zone C to a separation means S. The separated yarns are then drawn between rolls 65 and 95 and wound on a package 73 or 74. Alternatively, the two yarns may be helically twisted by means of a false twist spindle 121 downstream of the heater 30. The cold drawing step produces a reduction in bulk in the yarn and prevents snarling of the yarn. The cold drawn yarn is preferably made up into a fabric and relaxed in the presence of moisture to recover the bulk. Adjustable yarn tensioning means e.g. adjustably mounted friction pins, are preferably provided between the cooling zone C and the draw rolls 65, 95 to control the percentage elongation of the yarns in the draw zone, preferably to 3-20%.
