Abstract

In a continuous combined drawing and bulking process, two similar undrawn synthetic polymer e.g. nylon, multifilament, twisted or twistless yarns are drawn (with a stretch ratio of at least 2:1) by pairs of rollers in one or two stages in at least the second of which the stretch in the yarns is concentrated at a non-rotatable, optionally heated, snubbing pin. The drawn yarns are immediately and directly forwarded, with a mechanical overfeed not exceeding 20% and heating (as by heated draw rolls) to ensure or assist in the yarn contraction or relaxation, through separate oppositely rotating frictional false-twisting tubes, and are set or allowed to set by additional and/or residual heat. An air jet may act on low tension spans of yarns between supply package and feed rolls of a drawing mechanism and between the final draw rollers and the false-twisting tubes and/or the yarn downstream of the latter to intermingle the filaments and/or to cool them before winding-up the yarns e.g. with a slight overfeed and/or a low plying twist to form a balanced-torque composite yarn.
