Abstract

916,293. Spinning and finishing yarns. BRITISH NYLON SPINNERS Ltd. July 13, 1961 [July 26, 1960], No. 25890/60. Class 120 (3). A composite, cored, textured yarn is produced by overfeeding a continuous filament yarn, as the core component, and a " stretchy," bulked e.g. twist-crimped, continuous filament yarn or yarns, as the wrapping component, through a texturing unit wherein the components are passed through a turbulent gaseous e.g. air, flow. Overfeed e.g. 20%, of the wrapping component exceeds that e.g. 5% of the core and some of the filaments of the components become intermingled. The components may be of similar or different materials, e.g. polyhexamethylene adipamide, polyethylene terephthalate or isotactic polypropylene. The total denier of the wrapping component may exceed that of the core e.g. the initial denier of the core and of each of a plurality of wrapping yarns may be identical. The composite yarn which is withdrawn from the unit and wound may be stabilized on the package, in pressure steam or by pressure dyeing, in order to restrict shrinkage during any subsequent processing. As shown, stretch/bulked continuous filament yarns 5 and 7, drawn from packages 1 and 3, are merged by passage through a tensioner 13 and forwarded by rollers 15 and 17 to an air texturing unit 19 wherein they are wrapped around, and cotextured with, a core yarn 11 of continuous filaments supplied directly from a package 9 by rollers 21 and 23. Composite yarn 33 is passed through a tensioner 29 and wound into a cheese 25. Specifications 732,929, 762,630 and 890,053 are referred to.
