Abstract
1315101 Making knives J A HENCKELS ZWILLINGSWERK AG 21 April 1971 [16 June 1970] 10334/71 Heading B3A [Also in Division B4] A method of making a knife comprises forging the whole knife including the blade, stock and tang or handle, strengthening the blade by cold rolling transversely to its longitudinal axis X-X, cutting the blade to size and machining the whole knife. After forging the blade is rolled in opposite directions transversely to its axis. The knife is made from a chrome-nickel or chrome manganese steel having a low carbon content and the blade is rolled at a load which brings the metal close to its yield point. After it has been cut to size, the blade is sharpened and it may be provided with a serrated cutting edge. When the knife is formed with a tang, a handle is fitted subsequently.
