Abstract

1338949 Hedge-trimmer blades ROCKWELL MFG CO 20 Dec 1971 [18 Jan 1971] 58965/71 Heading B3A [Also in Division A1] Cutter blades for a hedge trimmer are formed by stamping teeth 304 along successive sections of bar or strip stock e.g. annealed steel and forming a slot 238 at each operation. A desired length is then placed in a cut-off die 310 which shears off a pair of teeth 316 from each side of the strip, punches a hole 139 and severs the strip at 312. The operation is then repeated on a second length, and one of the thus produced blades turned over to form a pair of mirrorimage blades. After the blades are cut from the strip they may be nickel penetrated by placing them in a basket and dipping the basket in liquid nickel. The cutter blade teeth are then shaved on one or both sides in a shaving die to form bevelled cutting edges (244), (246), Fig. 11 (not shown). After shaving, the blades are fed to a sander for deburring.
