Abstract

1313985 Stud and socket fastenings HOLLYMATIC CORP 23 Nov 1971 [20 April 1971] 54384/71 Heading E2B [Also in Division H2] In plug and socket contacts, one contact has a helical groove in its mating surface and the other a plurality of ridged resilient tabs arranged in two or more groups on its mating surface, each tab having one edge parallel to the common axis of the mated plug and socket and an opposite edge spaced radially outwards of the mating surface, such that on coupling the tabs are depressed inwardly and the ridge of a tab in each group engages the groove. The base 19 of a lamp 20 is adapted to be received in an E.S. socket and comprises ridged 23 and grooved 24 spring tabs 22, the ridges and grooves corresponding in size and position to the screw thread of the socket. Each tab has one edge 25 parallel to the axis 43 and fixed to the base wall 26 and a free edge 27 spaced radially outwards of the wall 26, so that the tabs can junction as a cantilever spring. In the embodiments described the tabs are arranged in two identical groups of four or five tabs each, with the tabs in each group being off-set from one another by up to a half-path so that when the bulb is inserted into the socket by a straight axial force the ridges and grooves of at least one tab in each group engage the helical thread of the socket. A further embodiment (Figs. 4 and 5 not shown) describes a socket having tabs similar to those described above for receiving a lamp with a standard E.S. base.
