Abstract

1313353 Valves HARPER-WYMAN Ltd 1 Dec 1971 [1 Oct 1970] 46806/70 Heading F2V [Also in Division H1] A push-button control system for use in electrical switches or other control devices such as valve assemblies for controlling the flow of gas to a number of burners, comprises a series of push-buttons to be operated in prescribed sequence, a spring-biased lever member associated with each button and each having a portion adapted in one position of the lever member to engage behind a stop on the button and thereby lock the button in the operated position and having a part overlapping the lever member associated with the preceding push-button of the sequence whereby when any lever member is in a disengaged position the lever members of all subsequent push-buttons are held in a disengaged position also. In the described embodiment a valve assembly is provided with three operating buttons 11-13 each associated with a valve member 20 and a locking slide 24 attached to one of three levers 36, 37, 38 mounted on a common spindle 39. Levers 37 and 38 have overlapping portions 37A and 38A respectively so that buttons 12 and 13 cannot be locked until the preceding button 11 or buttons 11 and 12 respectively have been locked. A release button 15 is provided to release the push buttons which may also be released by pressing the preceding pushbutton. A master button 14 operates a valve member which forms part of a conventional thermo-electric valve 30 which holds the valve open when its thermal sensor is heated by the first burner to be ignited. The master button acts upon a microswitch to energize an igniter associated with the first burner and also releases push-buttons 12 and 13 to ensure that the gas flows only to the first burner.
