An automobile ignition combination lock comprises an ignition lock housing 10, a casting 68 rotatably mounted in the housing, a key lug 78 in the casting and a key way in the housing for locking the housing against rotation, a plurality of spring urged push buttons 20, 32 mounted on the face of a knob 12 on the casting, a spring urged spindle 42 axially slidable and the casting, means for sliding the spindle against the action of a spring so that projection on the spindle engage notches in the key lug, thereby allowing the key lug to move to disengage the key way and free the casting to rotate when the push buttons have been depressed in the correct sequence. The spindle 42, slidable in the casting in the housing 10, has shoulders 91 which are engageable and notches 86 in the key lug, 78, or are displaced therefrom to project the key lug, into a slot 108 in the housing 10 and thereby retain the casting against rotation and prevent rotation of an ignition switch 106 secured to the casting. To free the casting for rotation the push buttons 20 are depressed in the correct sequence, thereby causing a finger 31 depending from each push button to project from a slot in a ring 36 abutting the central push button 32, into a selected plot 64 in one of a series of annular elements mounted on a bushing 48 on the spindle 42, when each push button is released the finger engaging in the slot moves the spindle against the action of the spring 34 and releases the previously engaged finger. The spindle moves to a position in which the shoulders 91 engage the notches in the key lug, and the key lug is urged to disengage the key way by springs 84 freeing the casting from the housing and allowing it to be rotated by turning the knob 12 to rotate the ignition switch 106. The switch is locked by depressing the button 32 which moves the guide ring 36 to displace the engaged finger 30 from the slot 64, the spindle is moved by the spring 34 and displaces .the key lug into the by way.
