1311293 Movements of vehicles; utilizing P C LUTHAR 21 July 1970 35266/70 Heading B7J [Also in Division F2] The flanges of wheels of a railway vehicle are lubricated by pneumatically actuable oil sprayers which are actuated in response to the angular displacement between the bogie carrying the wheels and the vehicle frame so that only the flanges of the wheels on the outside of a curve are lubricated. Oil is sprayed on to the flange of a wheel 1 by a sprayer 4 secured to the bogie frame of the vehicle by brackets 3. Oil may pass from a reservoir 7 via a duct 28 to an inlet 6 of the sprayer. Air admitted by a valve 17, lifts a valve 11 whereby oil trapped in a chamber 9 is allowed to flow into a chamber 10 from which it is forced out by the compressed air to lubricate the wheel flange. When the air flow ceases, the valve 11 returns to its initial position admitting a further dose of lubricant into the chamber 9. Air is admitted to actuate the sprayer only when the vehicle enters a curve on the track. A plate 50 (Fig. 3) is secured to the bogie frame 29 and carries a pair of electrical contact rollers 32, 33. The underframe 30 of the vehicle carries three electrical contact plates 34, 36, 37, separated by insulating material 35. Roller 32 is always in contact with plate 34. When the vehicle enters a curve relative displacement between the vehicle and the bogie causes the roller 33 to be displaced from the insulating portion to contact either plate 36 or 37 depending on the direction of the curve, thereby completing an electrical circuit which operates an electropneumatic valve which admits air to the valve 17, causing the appropriate flange to be lubricated. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) the supply of air admitted to actuate the sprayer is effected by a three way cock (20) operated by levers (45, 46) which move in response to displacement between the bogie and the frame.
